Why You Should Hire A Professional Cleaning Contractor

Why You Should Hire A Professional Cleaning Contractor

We all know that first impressions count. For many of us, we like to present ourselves in the best possible way and ensure we look smart, tidy and professional. So why should it be any different for your company?

Take a look around your current environment, whether it’s an office, factory floor, toilet or kitchen; does it look tidy to you? Maybe a bit of dust is gathering in the corner. Or there is that hard to reach cobweb dangling from the ceiling. Maybe it’s time to think about hiring the professionals? (Or switching to Ideal Cleaning Services Ltd).

There are many benefits in hiring a cleaning contractor rather than to do it yourselves; below is a list of them.

Structure

It is a known fact that we humans love to have structure in our lives. By hiring in a commercial cleaning contractor, you will have a contract which includes a work schedule. Your schedule, which has been tailored for your needs, will be put in place so you know when and who will be entering your building and at what time. We provide continuity, for instance, if your regular cleaner is absent, we will make sure to provide you with a cover Cleaning Operative.

Cost

Many people opt out of hiring a cleaning contractor, as they assume that the cost will be too high. However, Ideal sit down with our customers to discuss your requirements and make sure that they are at a reasonable cost. Another cost benefit is that if a piece of equipment gets broken, it is up to the cleaning contractor to pay for the cost to fix it, rather than the business. What about the cost of equipment? If you were to hire a contractor, they would have the necessary equipment in order to get the job done. That means, no added cost for hiring out and storing the hefty equipment!

For more information on what products we can supply, please get in touch with BMS Janitorial either via phone: 0115 913 2200, or email: stores@idealcleaning.co.uk

The IDEAL Way To Get Ready For Christmas

By | Blog, Christmas | One Comment

At Ideal, we always get into the festive mood for Christmas; mainly because food is involved. We have put together a list of ideas that will get you and your work colleagues ready for Christmas.

Decorate The Office

Not everyone enjoys or celebrates Christmas, so it’s best to not decorate the whole building with eye catching tinsel. However, for those who want to celebrate Christmas, you could decorate your work space i.e. your desk, with lots of festive trimmings!

Maybe you could put up a Christmas tree that has been decorated with far too many baubles. To really give your office that extra cosiness, put up some festive lights around your door frames and window sills. Another idea would be to put a bit of tinsel around your computer monitor.

There’s absolutely no shame if you want to go over the top and decorate your workspace from top to bottom- go for it!

Have a Good Ol’ Fuddle

Let’s face it. We all LOVE Christmas food. Mince pies, sausage rolls, ginger bread men or chocolate- we’ll have them all!

If you really want to impress your fellow colleagues then go all out and bake homemade goodies. Try searching for delicious ideas on Pinterest or Instagram.

If you’re not really a star baker, a trip to the supermarket will suffice (I don’t think it’s considered festive to poison your colleagues)

Secret Santa

I love Secret Santa, even though it never stays a secret. You always end up spilling the beans on who you have, nevertheless, it’s fun to do.

You don’t have to have a big budget. I know you spend the majority your life with the people you work with, but a £5 gift is more than enough to show them you care; just make sure the budget it communicated to everyone before you take part.

Also, please try to refrain from buying any inappropriate or offensive gifts!

Christmas Gift Wrapped With A Bow

Get Out Your Best Festive Jumper

An ugly one, one that plays music, one that lights up or a subtle one. You could do a best /worst jumper contest if you are really competitive. Or for all of you Christmas loving lot, why not go extreme and come to work dressed as Santa?

Charity Christmas Raffle

It’s always good to give at Christmas. Ideal always partake in a Christmas Charity Raffle. Instead of Christmas cards, employees at Ideal donate money to Charity. Half of the money will go to Charity and the other half goes towards a prize.

Office Party

I think I speak on behalf of everyone when I say we wait all year for the Christmas Party to arrive. Christmas Parties don’t always have to include alcohol either. A fun activity could be something which the Head Office employees at Ideal participated in recently, an Escape Room, not only is it team building, it’s also fun too!

For the more traditional lot, it’s nice to put on your glad rags and go for a nice meal and a “few” drinks. There’s nothing like an awkward/funny drunken office story.

Plastic Pollution in the UK

By | Blog, eco-friendly | 3 Comments

Every year, around the world, production of plastics exceeds 300 million tonnes. Much of it ends up in landfill as it is non-recyclable. The reason why plastic has been produced for such a long time is because it’s cheap, strong and extremely versatile.

However, in recent years, people have started cutting down on plastic consumption; as we have realised the effects on the environment and oceans.

Plastics are synthetic polymers and can take up to a thousand years to decompose. Many of our plastic waste ends up washed up on our beaches- That’s if our precious marine organisms haven’t already digested it.

70% of all the litter in the oceans is plastic. Mistaken for food, a lot of creatures such as fish are eating our plastics, from bottle tops to tyres; which means that there is a good chance that people are consuming micro-plastics too.

Many of our wildlife and sea life get entangled in our plastic waste resulting in injury and even death. A recent news article in the UK highlighted the dangers of discarded plastics as a deer was found dead with a plastic bag stuck on its head (The deer, due to lack of vision, strayed into the road and made contact with a vehicle-resulting in death).

Documentaries have helped to shed light on this disaster, such as David Attenborough and the Blue Planet II team. As a result of this, more and more companies are banning single use plastics for example; many restaurants are now only using paper straws rather than plastic ones.

Not only have documentaries helped to educate us for years, The Prince of Wales, has actively warned us of the impact plastic is having on the environment. Prince Charles said

“The amount of plastic entering the Ocean every year is, unbelievably, set to get worse rather than better.”

“A solution is achievable and simply has to be done for all our sakes – and, above all, for the long-term viability of all those species in the sea which are already suffering unbearably because of our actions.”

The Supermarkets are also doing their bit to help

In 2015, there was an introduction of a 5p charge of plastic bags in supermarkets and shops. This encouraged us to purchase “A bag for life”. This is rather than to keep paying 5p per bag every time we wanted to do our weekly shopping.

Recently, there has been a political debate between MPs on whether supermarkets should ban all use of plastic packaging for fruit and vegetable items.

So what can we do to help?

Whether you are volunteering to clear litter at your local beach, pick up litter in the streets or reduce the amount of plastic you consume. It will all help contribute to making the environment a better and healthier place for all and future generations to come.

Eco-Friendly Cleaning: Why is it important to us?

By | Blog, eco-friendly | 2 Comments

Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products: Why are they important to us?

Having a clean environment should be important for businesses- Large or Small! Not only can a clean environment help improve safety; it can also help improve productivity, stop the spread of disease and promote a professional looking business. Although your grandparents swore by using baking soda and vinegar, it was still seen as “hippie” to use eco- friendly products. Nowadays, a lot more people are trying to help preserve what is good in the environment.

The main purpose of using eco-friendly cleaning products, in essence, is to keep both the environment and living beings healthy. So it’s time to throw out all of the chemically-based cleaning products and welcome the benefits of using these products:-

Safer to Use

The chemicals used in many cleaning products are harsh. The toxins in these products can cause skin/eye irritation and lead to respiratory issues. However, eco-friendly cleaning products do not contain such harsh chemicals. Green cleaning products include ingredients that are natural and are less likely to aggravate allergies.

Protect Our Planet

Using green products prevents air and water pollution, protecting our environment for the future generation and all living things. We know this at Ideal and this is why we aim to use clean vehicles (see our other blog here) and products in our cleans. We also sell green products from our sister company, BMS Janitorial. If you also want to use environmental products give them a call on: 0115 913 2200.

Leaves a Pleasant Smell

Chemically based cleaning products tend to have a strong smell which can be very overpowering. However, as eco- friendly products use natural ingredients, it will be sure to leave your business with a light and fresh scent. This is Ideal for jobs where we have to be in and out quick leaving just before tenants arrive back. This is a bonus for any cleaning company as in many situations a good clean is when you cant tell there was anyone there (apart from the area being cleaner of course).

Animal Friendly

Eco-friendly products are NOT tested on animals. Brands such as Method claim to be 100% cruelty free and have never tested ingredients or finished products on animals, nor have ever ordered third parties to conduct animal testing on their behalf. This is on thing that we at Ideal are very much against! We ensure all the products we use will not hurt the environment or animals.

Ensuring a better tomorrow

Eco-friendly products will help us save the environment meaning we can help prevent a future which, as explained in the IPCC report. We know that the use of chemical cleaning products isn’t the biggest issue in this report however it does also effect the environment and just one little change could save the planet in the future and give us more time to try and save this beautiful planet we call home.

Legionella: Managing in your Business

By | Blog, Industrial Cleaning, Legionella | 7 Comments

Managing Legionella

Many people do not understand the importance on managing Legionella in their business. Whether that is down to ignorance or just lack of knowledge, this article will tell you why managing Legionella should be a high priority in your commercial and industrial business.

What is Legionella?

Legionella is a fatal bacterium that is known to cause Legionellosis/ Legionnaire’s disease. Legionella is commonly found in environments such as natural water sources i.e. rivers or lakes. It can also be found in water systems such as cooling towers, air vents and hot/cold water systems. It multiplies where temperatures are between 20-45 °C.

Legionnaires’ disease got its name from an outbreak back in 1976, which affected 220 people and resulted in 34 deaths. This deadly disease is a severe form of pneumonia, which you can get from inhaling mist from contaminated water.

Who Legionella Affects

Offices, Factories, Hotels and Hospitals are of a higher risk of this disease as you are more exposed to water supplies such as cooling towers, air conditioning units, showers, taps and toilets.

You are more at risk of getting Legionnaires’ disease if you are any of the following:-

  • A smoker
  • Elderly, or aged 45 and over
  • A heavy drinker
  • Suffer from chronic respiratory or kidney disease
  • Are suffering from Cancer
  • Have diabetes

Is a Legionella Risk Assessment a Legal Requirement?

Yes. Although it is not a legal requirement to produce a Legionnaires testing certificate, it is a legal requirement for all places of work, with exposure to Legionella, to carry out a Risk Assessment to determine whether the environment is a safe place to work. When having an external company conduct a risk assessment, it is important to ensure that the company is certified to do so.

How much does a Legionella Risk Assessment cost?

The cost for a risk assessment depends on factors such as the size of a building and the amount of water systems. It should be reviewed at least every two years.

What Ideal Cleaning Services Ltd can do for you

Ideal Cleaning Services is a LCA registered company. We provide a comprehensive range of Legionella control services such as: risk assessments; clean and disinfection services for cooling towers; analytical and inspection services.

If you have any questions regarding Legionella in your business, or would like for us to provide you with our services, then please contact our Industrial Department on 0115 913 2222.
